For anyone who has a private house or apartment with independent heating – an important issue is the insulation of the walls and ceiling, because it is better to make the maximum thermal insulation and spend less money on heating than the opposite. It will allow to save on gas expenses, in the big sum. Heat rises up to the ceiling and escapes through it more than 60%.
Choice of insulation material for the ceiling.
About 20 years ago this problem was already relevant, at that time people filled the gap with grass or expanded clay. But with the development of technology there are more functional and safe materials. At the moment the best material for insulation is mineral wool. It retains heat better and is fire safe. And the price of such material is more or less affordable for most people.
Insulation variants.
The process itself can be divided into two ways of implementation. Insulation on the outside and insulation on the inside. Here it matters what materials should be used, for internal works it is necessary to buy vapor-permeable materials that moisture wouldn’t accumulate on the ceiling. And when working on the outside, you need to put vapor barriers to protect your ceiling from outside moisture.
Interior insulation of the ceiling.
For this, a great option can be considered mineral wool, which is also called glass wool. Buy it is worth it in a roll or in the form of small panels, which will be convenient to put in front of the plasterboard or other options for a suspended ceiling.
The process of this goes in this order:
Assemble a frame of metal and wood, using dowel nails.
Mineral insulation is glued between the frame profile. It is recommended to use tile adhesive, as it sets quickly and firmly with the material.
After gluing the thermal layer, put gypsum plasterboard plates. Usually on self-tapping screws of hardened steel, the most successful option at the moment.
The nuance in the thermal insulation.
Spot lighting, which is in the suspended ceiling, quickly heats up if there is no air circulation near the bulbs. What would avoid the rapid burning of the lamps, it is worth leaving a gap near them, a couple of centimeters without glass wool will be enough to protect the lamps from overheating.
External insulation of the ceiling.
If the house is already finished, but there is a need to keep the heat even more, it is worth insulating from the outside. It is cheaper than insulating the ceiling internally, because you do not need to repair the ceiling itself after the heat preservation work. How to do it ?
We insulate with foam panels:
Clearing the concrete slab in the attic so you can put the material over the entire surface.
Calculations of the area, the purchase of material (foam), a thickness of at least 4 cm.
Gluing the entire area with installation foam, one of the most convenient options for joining concrete and foam.
If the second floor or attic is planned to use, it is worth to put a cover on top that will distribute the pressure of human feet on a large surface, so as not to damage the layer of foam. This can be done by pouring concrete surface, put wood panels of chipboard, or steel sheets, decorated with some material.
If you decide to insulate with mineral wool attic or second floor, the algorithm of work will be as follows:
Clearing the space, calculating the area
Mounting the frame – in this variant it is simply the lagi.
Applying a vapor barrier, we recommend using pergamite.
Lay mineral wool, over the entire surface, do not compress it heavily, it should contain as much air as possible – which will be as strong protector of your heat.
Cover it with any floor covering that would protect it from damage when walking on the roof or on the second floor.
If you know that heat will still escape, you can put two layers of mineral wool.
After insulation you can feel the effect immediately, this operation creates a cozy and warm atmosphere in the room. After that, you will be much more pleasant to be in it in the winter season.
