Ookla, the world leader in testing fixed broadband and mobile networks, has published a ranking of the fastest Internet providers in Canada in the second quarter of 2022.
The company’s global Speedtest index compares internet speeds around the world on a monthly basis. Speedtest is an online program that allows users to check the speed of their connection.
The analysis of Speedtest for the 2nd quarter of 2022 showed that Shaw is the fastest provider of fixed broadband Internet access in Canada. Rogers took second place, and Bell Canada – third. Cogeco is in fourth place, followed by Telus. Videotron closes the six.
If we look at the statistics by province, Newfoundland and Labrador took the first place in terms of speed with the fastest provider Rogers (median download speed: 221.84).
Here are the Top 10 provinces by Internet speed with the fastest providers:
- Newfoundland and Labrador (Rogers);
- British Columbia (Shaw);
- New Brunswick (Rogers);
- Nova Scotia (Bell Canada);
- Alberta (Shaw);
- Ontario (Rogers);
- Prince Edward Island (-);
- Quebec (Bell Canada);
- Manitoba (Shaw);
- Saskatchewan (Shaw).
However, when it comes to mobile communications, Speedtest found that the fastest provider is Telus with a median speed of 79.09 Mbit/s, Bell is second (72.46 Mbit/s), and Rogers is third (60.36 Mbit/s).
The race for the highest 5G speed in Canada was extremely tight: Bell and Telus were separated from each other by only 2 Mbit/s, which corresponds to the margin of error when conducting tests. Rogers was in third place.
