All work on wood usually requires edging. Plywood is made of a series of layered strips with wood fibers oriented perpendicular to each other on each layer. The layers are bonded together using a special type of lumber treatment glue. Although the alternating layers of strips make plywood a very stable material, which is ideal for building tables, cabinets, shelves and other work, untreated edges of plywood can ruin its appearance. In this article, you’ll find four methods for edging plywood.
Edging
In the store “All for home” or a construction hypermarket you will find laminated edges to glue on the edges of plywood. These strips are the most common method for covering curved cuts in plywood, as they are quite flexible. Use heat to melt the glue and attach the edges to the plywood. After the glue dries, you can use a scraper or knife to remove the excess glue.
Fragments
Wood chips can also be found in stores that sell lumber. Suppose someone on this site ordered plywood, and they might ask for additional items from the lumber category. Wood chips can be available in any width and can be attached to the edge of the plywood with nails. You can use wood filler to fill in the nail holes, before varnishing or painting the piece.
Tongue and groove
A common method of edge treatment is to bond it with a piece of hardwood. In plywood and wood to make slots and tongues (tongue and groove), and then they are docked, like pieces of a puzzle and bonded to the glue. While the glue dries, the construction should be held in place with clamps. Tongue should be made in a third of the thickness of the plywood.
No additional materials
Using joinery tools and the right sawing technique can avoid splitting corners. The edges can then be lightly deburred and sanded, followed by painting the ends with acrylic paint with additives (twice).
